In November 2006, Democrat Kenneth Stepp was toe-to-toe against popular Republican U.S. Representative Hal Rogers in the General Election for the Fifth District of Kentucky U.S. House of Representatives seat. Although Kenneth Stepp was defeated by the popular incumbent, Stepp received approx. 52,000 votes, and carried the Bath County Fifth District vote with sixty per cent of the vote in that county.
