"LEXINGTON, Ky. — A Kentucky soldier who was based at Fort Bragg, N.C., has been killed in Afghanistan.
WTVQ-TV in Lexington reports 19-year-old Dustin Gross, who graduated from Montgomery County High School in Mount Sterling last year, was killed by a roadside bomb.
Also killed in the May 7 attack were Sgt. Jacob M. Schwallie, 22, of Clarksville, Tenn., and Spc. Chase S. Marta, 24, of Chico, Calif.
All of the men were assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 73rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.
Gross’ family sent a statement to the station saying they are “very proud” of Gross but needed time to mourn his loss in private.
The statement also expressed appreciation for the love and support the family has received since getting word of the death."
Kenneth Stepp salutes Dustin Gross, 19; Sgt. Jacob M. Schwallie, 22; and Spc. Chase S. Marta, 24; all who gave their lives for the United States in the ongoing War in Afghanistan. The best we can do for our men and women in uniform in Afghanistan is to bring them home and end the American portion of that War.
