I'm not a fan at all of Big Government Spending, whether it be Republican or Democrat. For example, I'm not a fan of Hal Rogers appropriating funds for $17,000 leak-proof drip pans from McKee, KY for U.S. Army helicopters when there is a company in Leesburg, VA who sells the same type of drip pans at $2,500 a pop. In a case like that, I pay the taxes, and only those associated with Phoenix Products of McKee, KY get the reward. I'd like to know what you plan on doing to help Government Spending to Decrease? Also, how do you plan on helping the average tax payer, such as myself? I'm hoping you're a "Stepp Up" from Mr. Hal Rogers when it comes to Government Spending.
My mentor, Lovick Williams, an older lawyer that I shared office space with, and who kept a small statue of Moses on his desk, and his and his deceased father's framed State Bar Admission Certificates on his room wall in his law office building, once said, "You'll never regret your honesty." I agree with that.
No-bid contracts with the government should be abolished. Certainly corporations should be allowed to try to convince procurement boards why their product is better than their competitors, but procurement boards should follow similar policies to private enterprise. Do any helicopter owners in the private sector pay $17,000 for helicopter drip pans. Probably not. Probably it is just a scam being pulled on the government with earmarks and no-bid contracts. I'll help the average taxpayer, such as yourself, by standing against no-bid contracts, crony capitalism, and corporate welfare (welfare should go to poor people, and not to billion dollar a year corporations). I don't expect any large international corporations to endorse me, nor to bankroll my campaign account, but if you, as a taxpayer, want to get ripped off, just vote for the candidates whose campaigns are being financed by the crony capitalists, the corporate welfare recepients, and the earmark and no-bid contract recepients. I remember, when I was in the Navy, they used to complain about the government's purchasing of three hundred dollar toilet seats. I remember, the supply officers on our ship (the USS BLAKELY, A DESTROYER ESCORT) chuckled when they showed everybody a thirty dollar screw! I guess that seems funny that anyone would be stupid enough to pay thirty dollars for a screw that you could probably get at Lowe's for fifteen cents. I think of myself of the champion of ordinary people like yourself. If you won't pay out any graft, then I won't accept any graft. Together, we can save the taxpayers a lot of money.
Another way I'd save money is by bringing the troops and the helicopters home from Afghanistan and the Middle East. America can't afford to be shipping our children home in boxes; the Middle East needs to defend itself. We need to bring our troops, helicopters and materiel home from the combat zones. We've killed enough of those people over there to make our point--you don't mess with Texas, nor the rest of the U.S.A. either. I favor our continued membership in NATO, but NATO should resume its role as a strictly defensive postured operation. It kept the Soviet Union at bay for approx. 45 years and with a minimum loss of life. Kenneth Stepp.
